Which Teslas work with Gigaplay
By Lation, Model Y owner · Updated
Gigaplay works in Teslas with the Intel Atom (MCU2) or AMD Ryzen (MCU3) media computer: every Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck, and Model S and X built from about March 2018. Model S and X with the original MCU1 computer can't run it. To check your car, tap Controls → Software → Additional Vehicle Information and look at Infotainment processor.
By media computer
| Media computer | Cars | Gigaplay |
|---|---|---|
| MCU3, AMD Ryzen | Model S and X (2021+), Model 3 and Y built from late 2021 or 2022, every 2024+ Model 3, 2025+ Model Y and Cybertruck | Works, up to 1080p. Tested in a 2022 Model Y |
| MCU2, Intel Atom | Model S and X (2018–2021), Model 3 (2017–2021), Model Y (2020 to early 2022) | Should work; choose 720p if video stutters |
| MCU1, Nvidia Tegra | Model S and X built before about March 2018 | No. No Theater and an older browser |
Cut-over dates vary by factory. The processor line in Additional Vehicle Information is the reliable check (how to tell).
Intel Atom vs AMD Ryzen
Both run the same Tesla software and browser, but Ryzen is much faster. In a 2022 comparison, YouTube dropped frames on Atom and ran smoothly on Ryzen, and an app took 17 seconds to load on Atom against 4 on Ryzen. On Atom cars, Settings → Quality → 720p gives the smoothest playback. Tesla doesn't offer an Atom-to-Ryzen upgrade.
MCU1 cars
Early Model S and X with MCU1 don't get Theater or modern web video. Tesla offers an upgrade to MCU2 for Model S and X built through March 2018, which adds Theater and a current browser.
Other things that matter
- Software: keep the car updated. The browser is updated with the car's software.
- Connection: Wi-Fi, Premium Connectivity or a phone hotspot. Turn on Remain Connected in Drive to keep Wi-Fi when moving.
- Region: in a few regions the browser is reportedly unavailable while driving, which would stop Gigaplay there too.
- Games: streaming your PC needs Windows 10 or 11 with an NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics card, and a PS5 controller paired with the car; see how to play Steam games on a Tesla.
- Other screens: Gigaplay also opens in any phone or computer browser.
